Baked Apple-Cinnamon Doughnuts

What You'll Need

  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup butter, melted and slightly cooled
  • 1/4 cup apple butter or applesauce
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup milk or buttermilk
  • 1 1/2 cups finely chopped, unpeeled apples
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

How to Make It

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 F. Mix the flour, salt, baking powder, cinnamon, and sugar together in a medium bowl. Whisk the butter, apple butter, eggs, and milk in a large measuring cup. Stir gently into the dry ingredients, then fold in the apples.
  2. Spoon batter into a greased doughnut pan, filling each almost full. Mix the 2 tablespoons sugar and 1 teaspoon cinnamon together; sprinkle over doughnuts. Bake for 18 to 20 minutes or until golden brown and a wooden toothpick inserted in centers comes out clean. Cool in pan on a wire rack for 5 minutes, then remove and let cool completely on the rack. Repeat for the remaining batter.
